Nesting boxes for layers in single, double, triple and 16-compartment units — wall-mounted, hanging, or standing on legs, most with a common egg container so eggs roll away from the hen. How hens nest decides how many eggs reach you clean and unbroken. Too few boxes and they lay on the floor, where eggs get dirty, cracked and eaten. A dark, private box in a quiet corner prevents that, and a roll-away design removes the opportunity for egg eating rather than trying to break the habit once it starts. Allow roughly one nest for every four or five layers, and mount them lower than the perches or the birds will roost in them instead.
