Milk quality tools — a strip cup for mastitis checking, a non-return teat-dip cup and a lactometer. This is the cheapest equipment on the farm and it protects the most money. The first squirts from each quarter go onto the strip cup's dark screen, where clots and watery milk show up days before the udder gives anything away. Dipping teats after milking closes the canal against the bacteria that cause the next case. A lactometer tells you what the collection point will find before they find it. One rejected can costs more than all three together.
